        My favourite short story ever is called Smeddum and it was written by Lewis Grassic Gibbon. It is the story of a family headed by a strong Scottish Matriarchal figure who has brought up her children in a way that fits in with society – they all get married and live ‘properly’ apart from one who runs away with a married man.   'The Smeddum Test' is an anthology of some of the finest contemporary poetry written in Scots in the past 10 years.
